Blog #11
We’ve done a lot of meaningful things this semester. I loved having an open dialogue with everyone. I hope the conversations we’ve had impact your teaching careers in good ways and we can all make some sort of change in the world. Not only did our conversations help impact me but so did the media we used to learn this semester.
The first thing to come to mind is precious knowledge. This documentary impacted me deeply. Not only did it show how our biases can effect children but how we as teachers have a duty to do right but our students. It shows how it goes deeper than what we do in the classroom, but how we can fight for our kids to have better. I think that’s something very important for teachers to understand.
The next thing to come to mind is the film Teach Us All. Again, another film about how biases are doing a disservice to children. Seeing this film made me think about how I can hopefully help my students with their success and how to consider their living situations. As well as talking about the growing problem of school segregation. I was not educated about this issue when I came into this class, and I’m very glad to have seen this to open my eyes on this problem.
The final video is the video The Urgency of Intersectionality. A video highlighting the police brutality against black women and the lives lost. This is an important conversation of how our identities come together to form this problem. Not only that, but our classmates saying everyone should watch this video were right. If you haven’t please take the time to, it’s important especially if you’re not a black woman. It had me thinking about my own identities, and how I both have unique problems from them. And how I have some privileges others don’t have because of how some of our identities differ.
I hope everyone has a lovely winter break.
I love your take and breakdown to the videos you found meaningful. Precious Knowledge was also so powerful to me because it showed that students DO want to learn. They just have to have the classes, teachers and support systems to get them where they want to be.
ReplyDeleteI also included "Precious Knowledge" as one of the works that stuck out to me the most this semester. I really enjoyed reading your explanations as to why this video, as well as "Teach us All" and "The Urgency of Intersectionality," altered your perspective and created an impact on your understanding.
ReplyDeleteHi Raine! I like how you included the video " The Urgency of Intersectionality". I was not included in the group that watched this video during class time, but I did watch it on my own time. It was extremely impactful and eye-opening for me. I hope that everyone can watch this video at least once in their life.
ReplyDeleteI like how you talked about these videos impacting the way you want to help your future students. It's important for us to constantly be learning even when we are teachers.
